thanks !
Apparently https://github.com/matrix-org/dendrite/commit/0f6b81f4560855d57550452463cc8d8b91de9ff2 is the fix needed to bring Dendrite up to 1.4; it just needs to be released. Meanwhile, Dendrite dev is best-effort currently due to lack of $ at both Element and the Matrix.org Foundation. On the Element side, we have to build stuff which people buy, and for better or worse people pay for Synapse rather than Dendrite today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5BrVVf0B1I&t=316s is my attempt to spell this out at FOSDEM.
Many thanks Matthew for your reply. I’ve been pointed to your presentation before, and I do understand funding, but this is really not communicated anywhere else. Just today someone who saw me commenting with a link to this post on Github voiced their concern in the Mautrix-Signal channel since they had just onboarded Dendrite over the last few days. Will Element allow the community to take on merging (and possibly release) access on the repo? Otherwise Dendrite will need to be forked if not just forgotten - sadly.
To be clear: Dendrite is not dead, and its team is still doing releases. But it’s happening on a best effort basis rather than being funded as a primary part of their day job at Element (for now). Contributions are very very welcome though - if ever there was a time for folks to step up and help share the load on building Dendrite this would be it :)
